COLOURFUL MALBURGEN WEST
2007, commissioned by Beleven

Acrylic painted wood,
photographs and transfers

140 x 160 x 270 cms.

The commission was to realize an outdoor temporary artwork in cooperation with the inhabitants of the quarter Malburgen West in Arnhem.

During various workshops in schools, society clubs and neighbourhood festivities, hundreds of small boards were painted by adults as well as children. Under my guidance the participants visualized their 'domestic' feeling.
Finally, all colourful paintings became building bricks for my concept; a house in its archaic shape. The colourful object is also a reflection of this multi-cultural quarter. People with 74 nationalities live in Malburgen West. All those different languages are represented with translations of the word 'home'.
Also photographic images of windows, like eyes from different cultures, are scattered
on the house.
